The attendance numbered 6000 and the receipts totalled £9OO. In the .singles Van Ilyn (America) heal Sproule 9 —7, 4 —o, 7—5; Allison (America) heat llopman, 3—6, 6—l, 6—i; Vines beat .Moon, 6—3, o — 2. Jn the doubles Allison and Van Byn met llopman and McGrath, and the score was C —3. 6—4, 3—6, 5—7, and 6—6 unfinished. Again playing brilliant tennis of a class never before seen in Brisbane the Americans made their position unassailable. However, the Australians were not disgraced. A feature of. tho day’s play was Ilopman’s form. Finding McGrath out of touch in the doubles llopman took everything upon himself. Volleying and smashing magniflclently he had the great American pair always extended. In the singles also llopman played brilliantly, though he was beaten by the more severe and consistent Allison. Vines in his singles against Moon showed what a truly great player he is. He made dazzling shots with the greatest ease, and his terrific drives and serves won applause from the record gathering. Active, hard-hitting Van Byn was too strong for the neat and consistent Sproule, who played attractively. MATCHES IN BRAZIL. ENGLISHMEN’S SUCCESS. RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 26. In the international tennis tournamen at Sao Paulo to-day OlilT and Avery (England) defeated Ivo Simons and Carlos Aranha, 10—-8, 6—2, 6—4.
