ATHLETIC GYMKHANA,
EVENTS AT STEELE PARK. HAMILTON CLUB'S MEETING. A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. Athletes from all parts of the district and as far afield as Auckland gathered at Steele Park on Saturday afternoon for the Hamilton Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club’s gymkhana. The meeting was originally scheduled for Labour Day, but the weather conditions on that day were such as to cause a postponement. The sun was shining brightly when the opening event .was commenced on Saturday afternoon, and although the attendance was only fair the prospects pointed to a successful meeting. And no one was disappointed. An attractive programme-was provided, and with a number of well-know amateurs engaged, there were some good performances recorded in both running and cycling events. Added interest was given in Hie appearance of Hie Y.M.G.A. troupe" of gymnasts, whose clever stunts were warmly applauded. A demonstration of wrestling holds, followed by an exhibition bout by W. Bayne, of Te Awamutu, and W. R. Shattock, of Hamilton, was another feature which attracted considerable interest. Altogether it was a wellarranged meeting, which reflected much credit on those responsible for the compilation of the programme, and Ihe running of the events. During the afternoon an excellent musical programme was provided by the Waikato Regimental and Hamilton Municipal Band, under Hie baton of Lieutenant A. E. Savage. At Hie conclusion of Hie meeting the trophies were presented by the Mayor, Dr F. D. Pinfold, who congratulated all the competitors on their performances. .
