TUG-OF-WAR CONTESTS.
HAMILTON POLICE SUCCESSFUL. A very large crowd was present at, the Otorohanga Town Hail to witness the tug-of-war contests staged under the auspices of the Druids’ Lodge. Twenty well-trained teams were in action, Including a Hamilton police force team. The audience enjoyed many thrills. In the final of the contest between Hamilton police and .Maoris the aggregate weights of the tour contestants were: Police, 52 stone 8 lb.: Maoris, 5 j stone. Tills two-minute put! crouloil great excitement, the police eventually winning by a quarter of an inch advantage. The Hamilton team comprised Constables K. N. Aplin. O. Rice, R. CJihhison and J. T. Mills. The team was coached by Constable (1. S. Saunders. In Hie Otorohanga final Telfer Rros. heat Puketarata after a great struggle. The points prize of £5 was won by Teller Bros., and the second prize of £3 was annexed by Puketarata. In presenting the prizes Mr F. W. Fnlrbrottier thanked the Hamilton pnllre for so generously assisting to bring -“bout (lie success reached.
