WEED ERADICATION.

AN EFFECTIVE METHOD. DEMONSTRATION IN HAMILTON. i RESULTS WITH NEW PREPARATION One of the greatest problems confronting bowling green keepers, and others who take a pride in keeping their lawns, sipooth and green, is the presence of weeds, which seem to persist) in spite of continued mowing' and other remedial measures. in Hamilton yesterday a demonstration of the powers of a New Zaland-made preparation, known as Weedex, was given on the Ferry Bank before a number of residents interested in the eradication of weeds. Among those present were members of the Hamilton Domain Board and Beautifying Society, park caretakers, bowling green keepers, and gardeners. The demonstration was given lay Mr W. 11. Campbell, of Wellington, a member of the Weedex- Company’s staff. Several types of weeds were treated with the mixture, and all showed signs of fading, shortly after the application. Some died quickly, while others appeared likely to survive only a short time. All, however, provided conclusive evidence of the efficacy of the preparation, and it would seem that it offers to gardeners and others a good chance to clear their lawns and gardens of weeds. Mr Campbell explained that Weedex is a liquid solution, made from a New Zealand chemist’s formula, which ' does not contain any Ingredient which poisons the soil or kills grass. It is absolutely safe to handle and does not burn or corrode any substance which comes- Into contact with it. The solution penetrates the skin of the weed, mingles with the sap, and is carried to the root of the plant, causing It to die within a very short time after the application has been made. The killer will eradicate dandelion, capeweed, dock, sorrell, daisy, thistle, or other lawn destroying weeds without injury to the roots of grass, The ingredients of the solution being of vegetable origin are readily assimilated by plant juices which distribute them throughout the plant. Grass has not sufficient sap to carry the solution to its roots, so the only portions of the grass killed are those coming directly in contact with the killer, and very soon fresh blades of grass appear. That portion of the solution which is not absorbed by the weeds evaporates rapidly and seeds can be safely sown one hour after its application. Clay or gravel paths can be kept clear of weeds by spraying. Several of those who witnessed the demonstration passed favourable comment on the efficiency of Weedex.
