THE HIGHWAYS FUND.
ITS MAINTENANCE URGED. • OPINION OF MOTORISTS. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. A meeting of representatives of local bodies and motoring organisations, called by the Canterbury Progress League, was held to-day to consider the proposal of the National Expenditure Commission that the Highways Fund should be abolished. A resolution was carried to the effect that the conference, while fully appreciating the Anancial difficulties of the Government, disagreed absolutely with the commission’s recommendation that the Highways Fund be abolished, and urged that the fund be maintained, and that at the earliest possible date all special motor taxation be paid into the fund.
