BANKRUPT CHARGED.

ALLEGED BREACHES OF ACT. TO BE TRIED AT HAMILTON. ROTORUA, Wednesday. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day, a contractor of Taupo, George Chase, ■was charged with breaches of the Bankruptcy Act. The charges were failing to deliver up possession of any part of his property to the official assignee, that he did not disclose all his property to the assignee, and that he did not hand over his books and papers. The official assignee, Mr. V. R. Crowhurst, of Hamilton, was represented by Mr H. T. Gillies, Crown proseoutor. W. L. Roberts, assistant official assignee, of Hamilton, gave evidence that accused was adjudicated a bankrupt on Juno 10. A letter was sont to him informing him of the fact and asking him to give certln information, but no reply was received. Further communications were sent and he was advised on August 4 that the matter would be placed in the hands of the Crown Solicitor if he did not comply with the roquest made. On October 10 the case come before the Court but acoused did not attend, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On October 13 accused attended the assignee’s office at Hamilton, continued witness, and with the assistance of a solicitor at Hamilton, he then filed bankruptcy papers. There had been no disclosure of liabilities and assets up to the time. Aocused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, and was committed for trial in the Supremo Court at Hamilton. Bail was allowed in £2O and two sureties of £2O each.
