RUAKURA FARM.
SHOULD NOT BE CLOSED. SOUTH ISLAND MEMBER'S VIEW. (Times Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The recommendation of the National Expenditure Compfission that Ruakura Farm of Instruction should be closed and offered for settlement was- strongly opposed by Mr fl. S. S. Kyle (Government —Riccarton), when speaking during the Budget debate in the House of Representatives this evening. Mr Kyle said that from an agricultural point of view Ruakura was a monument to the North, and it would be little short of a disaster if the commission’s recommendations were adopted. They all knew of the fine management, equipment and teaching at Ruakura and the excellent quality of the stock bred there. The farm was doing a wonderful work for the dairy industry of the Dominion, providing some of the best animals to be obtained for stud purposes. There was a sale of stock at Ruakura every year and farmers from all parts of the Dominion attended that Axture to procure their stud stock requirements. Every farmer who purchased stock at Ruakura knew he was getting animals of sound guarantee and with backing that could not now be obtained at any other place in New Zealand. Mr Kyle said he hoped the recommendation would not be adopted by the Government. 1
