ALLEGED ASSAULT.
THE AUCKLAND CASE. PEARLESS AGAIN REMANDED. Charged with doing'grievous bodily harm to Ralph Josling Arnold, at Auckland on Ootober 16, Reginald Lessel Pearless, aged 45 years, a civil engineer, of Hamilton, was further remanded when he appeared before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., In the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court this morning. When Pearless appeared before the Court on Friday he was remanded to appear at Auckland to-day, but on the application of Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson, with the acquiescence of accused, a further remand to November 3 to Auckland was granted. The detective-sergeant said, that the application was made at the request of the Auckland police, as no magistrate was available in Auckland to-day. No objection to a further remand was offered by Mr Noel S. Johnson, counsel for the accused, who asked that bail be renewed. The request was granted. Ralph Josling Arnold, aged 40 years, a salesman, of Auckland, died in the Auckland Hospital on the night of Tuesday, October 18. The cause of death was believed to be cerebral haemorrhage. Deceased was admitted to the institution under somewhat unusual circumstances. He was brought in by two men, who stated that he had collapsed in a car. Inquiries were instigated, Pearless giving himself up at the Hamilton Police Station on Friday.
