ON STRIKE AGAIN.
THE HUNTLY MINERS. protest against agreement. DEMAND FOR A CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)’ HUNTLY, Thursday. As a protest against certain clauses in the new agreement which the mineowners are bringing into effect on June 4, all the miners in the five mines near Huntly ceased work this evening and in the Pukemiro and Glen Afton mines- the miners have brought out their tools. The mines concerned are the Renown, Rotowaro, Pukemiro, Glen Afton, and MacDonald. Interviewed this evening, Mr W. Davison, secretary of the miners’ district council, stated that there would be no work on Monday unless the mine owners offered any fresh proposals In the meantime. The miners had ceased for an indefinite period or until the mine-owners would agree to a conference. NOTHING TO SAY. ATTITUDE OF THE OWNERS. AUCKLAND, Friday. The president of the New Zealand Coal Mine Owners’ Association, Mr W. D. Holgate, stated last evening that he had no statement to make upon the situation in the Waikato mines. As no work would have been done day or to-morrow in the ordinary course, any decision the men may have made will be ineffective until Monday.
