FARMERS’ UNION.

WOMEN’S DIVISION. The Wanganui branch have just held a very successful "use more wool" display in their new rooms. It was opened toy Mr Currie, and Mr J. R. Franklin, of the Farmers’ Union, also spoke congratulating and thanking them for their interest and cooperation. A pleasing feature of the display was the fine assortment of woollen toys. Dolls with knitted stuffed with wool and dressed with wool were there, also cats, teddy bears, and birds-cuddly toys to delight the heart of the littlest ones. The wool embroidery class showed some beautiful entries such as pictures, purses and cushions. Two very old pictures in wool embroidery were exhibited, being examples of fine accurate work.

A class for ladies over 70 contained many entries, all being examples of good, even work. One beautiful garment was the work of a lady of 87 years.

The woollen and rag rug sections showed much ingenuity, while the knitting classes contained innumerable garments in harmonious colour-

ings. Many of Hie competitors were pupils of the Correspondence School, which shows that the interest of our Division is very far reaching. Judging by the entries received, the South Auckland Provincial Wool Campaign should be a creditable display. Competitors must attach to their exhibit, a sealed envelope on the outside of which 1.4 written "For the Wool Campaign" and also the class number, while inside must he the owner’s name and address. Exhibits will be received at the Winter Show building on Monday, May 30, until 9 p.m. The Hamilton Junior branch met on Tuesday, May 17. It was announced that Miss Alison Curie, of Tauwhare, had been elected Country Queen candidate in the forthcoming carnival to be held in aid of the funds of the Y.M.C.A. A further meeting is to be held on Tuesday, 24th Inst., to arrange matters in connection with the Winter Show. Mr Cato Instructed members in gymnasium exercises and indoor basket ball after which a much appreciated lunch was served.
