KITCHEN EVENINGS.

AT MATANGI. A kitchen evening in the form of a surprise party was taken to the home of Mrs A. Craig, of Matangl, on Thursday evening, in honour of her daughter Jean, who is shortly to be married. The guest of the evening was called upon to open the parcels of kitchen utensils, which were numerous and useful. Mr Roche thanked all present, on behalf of Miss Craig. Dancing and games were indulged in until a late hour, while during an interval a dainty supper was served by the ladies. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought an enjoyable evening to a close. to

f. 3 kowhai function. A kitchen evening was tendered by the members of the Ladies’ Institute and others, to Miss Mabel Wenlhcrlcy, in view of her approaching marriage to Mr John Moreland, of le Rapa. The evening’s programme consisted of old-time dancing, songs and elocutionary -items and music was supplied by Mr Holland’s Orchestra from Hamilton. Mr A. T. Cross in a speech, presented the gifts and wished the young couple happiness. Mr J. Moreland replied on behalf of his fiancee. Supper was served, and dancing continued until midnight.
