KIWITAHI NEWS.

FANCY DRESS BALL. There was a large attendance at the annual children's fancy dress dance, held in the Kiwltahl Hall on Friday evening. Most of the children of the district were present in fancy dress, and the variety and originality of the dresses made a very pretty picture in the artistically decorated hall. The early part of the evening was spent by the children happily in games, under the direction ot the schoolmaster, Mr C. Brown. Supper was then served by the ladies, after which prizes were presented by Sir James Parr. Sir James amused the children by telling them of some of his own experiences when attending the Waihou school. The teacher on one occasion had told him he had no brains. He consoled those w’ho had not won prizes by saying there were other things in life besides winning prizes.

The members of the School Committee, headed by the chairman (Mr 11. T. Bagnall) and the secretary (Mr H. Bailey), ably assisted by the ladles of the district, are to be congratulated upon the way all the arrangements for the evening had been made and were carried out.

Tho prize-winners were:—Best couple, Sybil Halley and Edna Holt (Old English) ; prettiest girl, Gay McMillan; youngest girl, Doreen Haynes; most original girl's costume, Margaret Conley; most original boy, John Conley; best boy, Clarence Thompson; youngest boy, Gray Pirrit. Special prize, Gerald Bailey.
