NATIONAL GOVERNMENT. URGED by business men. MEMORIAL TO THE PREMIER. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.). PALMERSTON N., Wednesday. The following memorial, signed by 120 representative business and professional men and others of the Palmerston North district, has’been received by the Hon G. W. Forbes; “ We, the undersigned business and professional men and others of this district, wish to place on record our entire agreement with the resolutions urging the formation of a National Government passed at a well-attended public meeting in Palmerston North on May 7th. We further wholeheartedly support the resolutions submitted to the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition by representative business and professional men from Auckland and Wellington, as published in the press. “ We feel that during the currency of the present crisis no one party is strong enough to carry through the financial and other measures that are necessary, and that the formation of a strong National Government, comprised of all political sections of Parliament that arc prepared to place national interests before those of party, is essential.
“ We believe that the formation of such a Government is inevitable, but are further convinced that the sooner it is brought about the sooner will this country return to a condition of prosperity. “We believe that the views expressed recently in this connection by the London Times are a clear indication that the formation of a National Government would immediately and immeasurably increase our financial credit abroad, and inspire a feeling of confidence, both within the Dominion and overseas.”
