R. C. Kirk’s CupsThe late Mr R. C. Kirk’s cups for each event were won by A. D. S. Duncan and Dr. IC. Ross in the amateur match, and by A. J- Shaw and J. R. Galloway in the professional match. Comment on the Play. Ross returned to form with Duncan as a partner, and it was mainly due to his efforts that the pair won the event. Duncan did not putt witlj t any certainty and at the 28th green he missed a lOin. putt for a 4. The winners’ score was. Morning: Out —5,4, 4,3, 4,4, 4,4, 3 35. in—4, 4,3, 5, 6, 3, j), 4, 4—38. Afternoon: Out —5,4, 4,4, 6, 5, 5,3, 3 —39- In—s, 4,3, 5,4, 5,4, 4,4—38. Ekstedt and McEwan improved on their morning round by two strokes in the afternoon. McEwan’s approaches were inclined to be too strong and Ekstedt often had long putts to run °When J. L. Black and 11. A. Black teed up for the last hole they wanted 4 for a 77, and to stand on even terms with Ekstedt and McEwan for second place. 11. Black played a good approach from the edge of the green, and J. Black sank a foot putt for the 4. The brothers combined well and were never in serious trouble, both playing steadily rather than brilliantly. Shaw’s long driving and Galloway s skill with his irons won them the match. At the 9th, Shaw, after Galloway had placed his tee shot within 6ft. on tne pin, lipped the hole for a “birdie." At the 15th Galloway was nearly down in 3, but here again his ball hovered on the edge of the hole. The Manawatu professional at the next hole sank a sft. putt for a “birdie 3. The final of the professional championship will be decided tomorrow, between J. D. Mclntosh and F. Rutter, while H. A. Black plays L. Cathro and j. L. Black plays T. H. Horton in the scmi-flnals of tne amateur championship the final of which will be played on Saturday.
