Mr D. N. Chambers, of Hamilton, is spending a few days in Auckland. The Rev. Lawson Marsh, of Devonport, is spending a few days in Cambridge. Mr. W. G. Wohlmann, Commissioner of Police, was in Hamilton to-day and later' left for Rotorua. Mr H. T. I-lasell, formerly of Raetihi, has joined the Hamilton staff of the Bank of Australasia. . A presentation of a cheque was made to Mr Arthur E. Wilson, who has completed 21 yeats’ continuous service as organist and choirmaster at the Auckland Baptist Tabernacle. Messrs G. Goodwin, G. Rockfort, H. A. r fuck, R. G. Evans, W. T. Cowley (Auckland), J. H. Miles, C. H. Nelson, A. Blair (Wellington) and E. A. Cross (Wanganui) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Messrs C. M. Richwhite (Auckland), I. T. Marlin and D. Allen (Wellington) and W. Boyd (Matangi) have gone into camp at Taupo for a trout-flshing holiday. Mr A. 11. Cockayne, Assistant-Director-General of; Agriculture, was in Hamilton to-day to meet the executive of the' Waikato Pig Recording Club. Mr Cockayne left by the Rotorua express for Auckland. Mr W. Owen Garland, of Matamata, has been in Northampton, writes a .London correspondent. He went to the. Dominion from Bristol 50 years ago, and is paying his first visit to his homeland. Dr. Roche, of Cambridge, who went to London for the purpose of gaining further experience in the medical profession, has been successful in passing higher degrees. He will probably return to-New Zealand early in the new year. Mr Walter Impett, of Auckland, passed through London a few days ago from the Continent, on his way first Lo Scotland and then to New York, says a London correspondent, j In his travels he has been accompanied j by his son, Mr Kenneth impett. From New York, Mr Kenneth Impett will return to London, but his father will go on to Vancouver Lo join the Aorangi on November 12. The appointment of Mr 11.- Turner, assistant-public trustee, to the position .of Under-Seeretary of Defence, was announced this evening by the Minister of Defence, Hon. J; G. CohbeMr q'urner will take up his new duties on' Saturday. Legislative authority for the appointment, was provided in the Finance Bill (No. 2) passed by Parliament last week. Mr Turner joined the ; Public Trust Office as a cadet in February, 1899, and up lo the present all his public service lias been in that;department.
