SMITH’S GREAT FLIGHT.

RECEPTION IN SYDNEY. AUSTRALIA PROUD OF HIM. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright SYDNEY, Oct. 23. A civic reception was tendered to Wing-Commander Kingsford Smith today, many leading people in public life, aviation and business being present. A huge crowd of people cheered Smith as he entered the Town Hall. The Lord Mayor, Mr E. S. Marks, said Smith had set a standardof sane flying which it would he well for others to emulate. Australia was proud of one of her sons who had made such valuable contributions to aviation. Other speakers included Sir Edgeworth David, who was chief of the scientific staff with Shackleton’s Antarctic Expedition in 1907-9. In the course of a characteristic reply Smith expressed his very deep appreciation of the amazing welcome accorded to him, which he said he would never forget.
