SHOOTING SEASON.
GOOD TROPHIES SECURED. A very successful season has been experienced by North Island sportsmen this year, judging from the excellent trophies which have been received by a Frankton taxidermist for mounting. A head of outstanding value is that of a perfect royal, which was killed by Mr P. A. Courtney, of Hamilton, in the Kaimanawa Ranges a few weeks ago. The antlers are of regular length and shapg, and each top forms a cup. Another interesting exhibit is the head of an 18-pointer red deer, shot by Mr D. B. Livingstone, of Tuhikaramea. Mr T. R. Harding, of Matamata, has sent in.a 17-pointer red deer which fell to his rifle at Galatea. Other specimens of red deer include a 14pointer, secured at Rotorua by Mr J. Hawkins, of Te Aroba. ‘ The grim head of an immense boar, which killed four dogs before it was despatched, has been received for mounting. It was lulled on Mount Pirongia by Mr E. Beet, of Pirongia. The head is equipped with enormous tusks, and is a very fine specimen. Another boar's head of similar size was secured at Whatawhata by Mr J. Sutherland, of Whatawhata.
