ALLEGED RAPE
YOUNG MAN CHARGED. STRUGGLE IN A CAR. CASE FRDM OIIURA. ■ A young man named Selwyn Lloyd Bedell, aged 28 years, motor mechanic, of Ohura, is standing his trial for allegedly committing rape on a girl of 17 years, at Ohura on x\pril 1. Mr. H. T. Gillies, is conducting the case for the Crown, prisoner being defended by Mr. A. J. Mazengarb, Wellington.
The Crown Prosecutor stated the offence allegedly took’place in a car after a dance. The girl stated she was knocked on the head and was rendered unconscious. She, however, did not -scream or make any complaint until a .week later. The accused had made a statement in which he denied the criminal assault. Dr. R. B. Turnbull gave evidence as to the injuries sustained by the girl. (Proceeding.)
