GAMES AT MORRINSVILLE

SENIOR MATCHES. Although the weather was ideal for football at Morrinsville on Saturday, and the ground in perfect order, the form shown in the senior matches was a little disappointing to the large number of people on the ground, w'ho expected to see something out of the common in the match between the unbeaten Kereone team and the pick of the United Club. The other senior match, Tatuanui v. Terriers, was not the sort to excite much enthusiasm. Terriers this season have shown none of their old r time dash and cleverness, and the Tatuanuj team, who have shown fairly good form this season, had the best of a somewhat ragged game all through, and won by 17 to 5. These were the first matches of the second round, and judging from

Saturday’s play Kereone will again be hard to beat. * The form shown by the juniors was very much more satisfactory. The boys are evidently getting some good ooaching, and are putting plenty _ of enthusiasm into their play- Morrinsville should have a strong junior representative team this season, as there is ample material to chose from. Kereone v. United. On the whole this was a poor exhibition of Rugby, play being mostly amongst the forwards, and there was very little bright passing work by the backs. Soon after the start of play I the ball was kicked across the field !to G. Jack, who had practically a i clear run in, to score in a good posi- ! tion, Johnstone putting the ball over. | United 5,, Kereone 0. Kereone now put more dash in to their play, but for a time United defended well. From some ragged play O’Brien picked up and passed to Cameron, who cleverly dodged his opponents and passed to Aitken, who ran over and scored handy to the posts. W. Cameron failed to conyert.—United 5, Kereons 3. For a time Kereone were getting all the best of the play. Their "forwards played well together, and getting the ball from the scrums their backs handled well, and a good piece of passing, helped by the bad tackling of United, allowed Harnett to cross their line and score. Cameron again failed With the kick-—Kereone 6, United 5. From this dn United made a boot show, and It was only a question of how many fidints Kereone would but ut>., Sell, going at top, pioked Up smartly and dived Over hear the corner. Cameron made no mistake this time and landed a good goal, Poor play followed In which the backs did a lot of high kicking and the ball was taken to United territory. From a throwrin the ball passed from McNaughton, to Cameron, to Bodmin, to Stewart, who scored, but Altken’s kick failed. From this on Kereone had all the best of the game and Stewart again , scored and soon after the game ended with the score—Kereone 17, United 5.

For Kereone Leeson, A. Cameron and Griffin were the best of a hardworking paok, whilst Bodmin, O’Brien and Stewart .were the best backs. For United F. Jack, in the forwards, was the best, and G. Jack and Robertson, a promoted junior, played well.

Tatuanul v. Terriers. Favoured with a strong wind Terriers gained some ground at the start, and a bit of good passing by Blake, to Campbell, to Aitcheson, took play close to Tatuanul line, but failed to score. Play was kept close to Tatuanui’s line, and a good rush by Terriers got over, and Hooper scored their first and only points.—Terriers 5, Tatuanui 0. Ragged play followed the kick-off, and at change-over the ball was in Terriers’ 25. With the wind in their favour and with a good passing run, Buchanan got over, but Diver’s kick failed.—Terriers 5, Tatuanui 3. Tatuanui had the best of the forward play that followed, and from a penalty kick O’Grady scored. Tatuanui 6, Terriers 5. From ragged play close to Terriers' line Tatuanul again got over and scored, but failed with the kick,—Tatuapui 9, Terriers 5. Scrums and line-outs followed in favour of Tatuanui, and Terriers were forced. Play kept in Terriers’ quarters, and they were again forced. Some fairly good open play followed, but Tatuanui worked the ball to the Terriers’ line and got over, O’Grady failed to convert.—Tatuanul 12, Terriers 5. In the second spell Terriers put more life into their play and worked the ball to Tatuanui line, but a penalty spoiled their chance of scoring, and play was taken down field to their line again. Campbell made a good run down the ground, and Terriers got a penalty kick in a good position, but failed to score. Scrums, line-out and ragged play followed, Terriers holding their own fairly well, .lust on time Buchanan got the ball from a scrum, made a smart run, and got over. O’Grady kicked a good j goal, and the match finished in favour of Tatuanui by 17 points to 5. JUNIOR MATCHES. United A v. Terriers. This was a fairly good game, both the teams playing hard. Terriers put up a good fight and had hard luck in noL scoring. The game ended. — United 8, Terriers 0. For United all played well, with Roofke and Barker the best of a good pack. Mortimer, Chase and Redshaw were the best backs. Te Puninga v. United B. Te Puninga scored a try soon after the play opened, Welch getting over. From this on the play was very even. United had very bad luck in not scoring, especially near the finish. Their forwards were too anxious and spoiled chances, Rolson, B. Holcroft, Baker and McMillan were the best of United. Te Puninga all played well.

Kereone v. Springdale,

Kereone won by 11 points to 3. For Kereone A. Cameron scored, and Keeps converted. Keeps ajso kicked two penalty goals. THIRD GRADE. In the third grade contest, Terriers v. United, Terriers had all the best of the game, scoring 25 points to their opponents 3.
