FREEZING WORKS.
GO-SLOW METHODS. POSITION IN CANTERBURY. (liy Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. There were no further developments to-day in the freezing works trouble. The Islington and Fairfield works were the only ones operating at the normal rate, go-slow tactics being followed at all the others. FARMERS’ INTENTIONS. SUPPORT FOR COMPANIES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) * TIMARU, Friday. Work w-as not commenced at the Pareora freezing works until 11.30 a.m., and even then the go-slow rate proceeded. The same conditions prevailed during the afternoon. At the Smith field works lulling commenced at 9 o clock, the goslow rate prevailed until noon. A meeting of the men was held at one o’clock and lasted until 2.30 p.m., when the go-slow rate was resumed until closing time. The South Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union and the committee of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association discussed the position to-day. Each body resolved to support the companies in any action they might take to combat the trouble.
DEVELOPMENTS AT BURNSIDE
LITTLE SYMPATHY WITH STRIKERS
DUNEDIN, Friday. The freezing works trouble developed a new angle at Burnside today, three stop-work meetings being sandwiched between killings, another form of “go-slow” tactics. Nevertheless, it is reported that only 34 out of 250 men employed are showing sympathy with the Finegand strikers. If drastic action is taken no difficulty is anticipated in finding labour. . .
