OBITUARY
IV?R J. M. KING. FORMER COMMISSIONER OF TAXES (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. The death occurred at Takapuna this morning of Mr J. M. King, formerlv Commissioner of Taxes, aged 6S. He." was a famous Wellington Rugby footballer in the eighties. Mr King played for Wellington in 1380, in the memorable game at Dilworlh's paddock, when Auckland won by two tries to one, Whiteside and the Warbricks figuring in Uio northern fifteen. A section of ihe Wellington public was dissatisfied with Ihe result, and burnt in the Empire Lily an effigy of "Doctor Colter.” Auckland's umpire (more powerful in those early days than the referee himself). Mr king retired from the game after captaining Wellington against the Englishmen in I*3BB.
