JUBILEE NUMBER.. FIFTY YEARS OF PROGRESS. The Hawera Star on Thursday, April 10, celebrated the ,50th anniversary of its first issue, an occasion of justifiable pride which has been marked by the issue of a special number. > From the small bi-weekly sheet issued in those far-off days to the present modern daily newspaper is an accomplishment worthy of note and congratulation. The jubilee number presents a concise account of the development of the Star during half a century, a long period of the Dominion’s European 1 history, and a history of Hawera. As .well there are special articles which impart something of the atmosphere of the'pioneering days to the record of events, which together with the illustrations go to make an edition to be treasured and preserved as a family heirloom.
