LEAGUE OF NATIONS.

INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS.

MINISTER’S STATEMENT. DETESTATION OF WAR. 1 The (Minister of Education, Hon. H. Atmore, has written to the local branch of the League of Nations Union stating that lessons on the aims and work being performed by the League of Nations are already included in the syllabus of Instruction for Public Schools. On page 33 the League of Nations and the Kellogg Peace Pact are suggested topics for Standard V. On Page 145 of the syllabus the following words occur: — “ Frequent reference should be made in the higher classes to the constitution and activities of the League of Nations, and to some at least of the disputes that it has settled. One of the teacher’s main aims should be to impart in the minds of his pupils a detestation of war as a means of settling international differences. On no account should too great emphasis be laid on achievements in war.” Since July, 1925 articles on the League of Nations have been published in the Education Gazette, the official paper of the Department, and it is the Minister’s intention to help in the dissemination of the views of the League by continuing to publish informative articles.
