FAMOUS AIRMAN.
LANDS AT WHATAWHATA. FLIGHT FROM WELLINGTON. Unable to reach Auckland while flying in a Moth ’plane from Wellington yesterday, Mr F. C. Chichester; the hero of the England-Australia solo flight, landed on the Eyre Brothers’ paddock at Whatawhata last evening. After flying for about four hours the benzine was running out and as both Mr Chichester and his passenger, Mr 11. Bercsford Maunsell, were tired, it was decided to seek a landing place and remain at Whatawhata for the night. The two airmen spent the night at the local hotel. Naturally, the landing of a 'plane caused keen interest in the district and this, coupled with the knowledge that the popular New Zealand ace was actually to be seen resulted in many spectators. Mr Chichester resumed his flight to Auckland at noon to-day.
