BOWLING TEST TEAMS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —“One Up," with reference to fhe above, is to be commended. It seems a pity, in the opinion of this writer as one of the 1929 tourists to Taranaki, that a -test match should be played at all. These touring parties of bowlers are made up of those who have the leisure or inclination to make the trip and do not by any means represent the best bowling ability of either province. Bowlers, collectively, are more interested in having a sociable time and making new and renew- ' Zing old acquaintances than in who actually wins or who does not. One would like to make the following suggestion: That instead of making a test match, . an afternoon be set aside for a game, the home side to consist of all the last season’s tourists that are available. ; One cannot help remembering the - words of the president of the New Plymouth Club last season, who said: “I do sincerely hope that no misguided Individual will ever present a trophy to be competed for at these gatherings." But, sir, is there not a danger - of the scalp of Taranaki or South r’r. Auokland, whichever the oase may be, ■ becoming the trophy if we are to continue selecting the best available ■tt Neams to meet the tourists.—l am, etc-, R. STREET. 447 Victoria Street, Hamilton.
