A radio message 'has been received that the Bretagne bound for Samoa from San Francisco, was a total loss. It is assumed that the mentbers of the crew are safe. It is thought that the mysterious "5.0.5.” received by the Bluff radio station was from the ill-fated vessel. There is some doubt about the stiip's identity. Stic may lie a.. Danish, motorship of 3177 tons or an auxiliary schooner of 1028 tons, both of same name. IDENTITY ESTABLISHED. AN AUXILIARY SCHOONER. ABANDONED AT SEA. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, Ootober 12. The lost vessel Bretagne, Is the. auxiliary schooner which was abandoned by the crew T 5 miles south of Umatilla lightship, when the ship took a dangerous list.
