WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT WAINGARO. The monthly meeting of the Waingaro Women’s Institute was held at Mrs. Barter’s house. Mrs. Picken presided over a good attendance. A discussion on a book "Pastel” which had been passed round for reading, among the mambers was led by Mrs. Coleman. A demonstration of rope hearthbrush making was given by Mrs. Parsons. Afternoon tea was dispcnccd by the hostesses Mesdames Barter and Coleman. TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. The usual monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu Women’s Institute took place in the parish hall on Thursday afternoon. The president Mrs. H. Y. Collins presided. After-routine business was transacted Mrs. W. Locke gave a most interesting essay on gardening which was much enjoyed. A roil call, the subject being “Why I Joined the Institute" was then held and in the resultant replies suggestions wore made for improving the scope, interest and usefulness of the Institute. Some of the suggestions were popular and will probably be incorporated in the scheme of future meetings. Mrs. Montefiore undertook to be responsible for a bring and buy j
stall each month and it is up to each member to see that it is successfully carried out.
Mrs 'Locke snr. organised a glee club, the first meeting to take place next week and this should be the means of brightening up future social meetings. Afternoon tea being over a community sing was then held. Mrs. F. B. Bevin presided at the piano. The hostesses for (lie afternoon were Mrs. W. Locke and Mrs. X. Goodall.
