CAULFIELD &ORATCHINGS. KARUMA AND NIGHTMARCII. (Australian Press Association.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 10. The following scratchings were posted to-day:—Caulfield Cup: Karuma (10.58 a.m.) and NTghtmarch. Toorak Handicap: Pccunia, Royal Flavour. The Cup candidate Some Quality arrived from Adelaide. Merab, Lady Adelaide and the two-year-old Comic Song have also arrived. Black Duchess worked at Caulfield to-day and looks well. W. Duncan rides Standard Bearer, High Syce, Limber Up and Highland at Caulfield on Saturday. PAQUITO OUT FOR THE CUP. SYDNEY, Oct. 10. Sensations were caused in racing circles to-daly by the scratching of Karuma from the Caulfield Cup and the announcement that the New Zealand horse Paquito is to go to Melbourne to compete in that event. The latter news is the subject of favourable comment In all parts of the Commonwealth.
Since August 1 New Zealand-trained horses now here have won 15 races at metropolitan and provincial meetings, also 14 seconds and 11 thirds.
