POLITICAL NOTES.

A PROTRACTED SITTING. LAND LAWS AMENDMENT BILL. CONSIDERATION IN COMMITTEE. (Times Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Consideration in committee of the Land Laws Amendment Bill was ihe main business before the House yesterday. The sitting was protracted, urgency being accorded the measure. A humorous note was Introduced by the Labour member for Auckland suburbs (Mr. 11. G. R. Mason) who described the bill as a joke, but other members took the proposals seriously and debated them until.a late hour. Opposition was expressed to the proposed departmental representation on the suggested Lands Development Board'and the Minister of Lands (Hon. G. w; Forbes), who had previously Intimated that he did not expect to get the bill through at the sitting, announced an amended personnel of the board.

Before the House rose it put through the first part of the bill. To-day the bill will be further considered in committee, and the House will also give the second reading consideration to the Summer Time Bill.

SIR GEORGE HUNTER. SATISFACTORY PROGRESS. (Times Correanondent.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. It was reported to-day that Sir Geroge Hunter (Reform, Waipawa), was making excellent progress and a rapid recovery from his recent indisposition. It is expected that it will not now be long before Sir George is up and about again.

PAEROA TO POKENO. INVESTIGATION WANTED. (Times Correspondent.) WELLIN'GTON, Wednesday. An investigation with a view to ascertaining whether a concrete road or an alternative route between Morrinsville and Taupiri would not be of more economic value than a railway between Paeroa and Pokcno, was advocated by Mr. F. Lye (Waikato) in notice of a question given in the House to-day. Mr. F. Lye considered such inquiry should be made before action was taken on the railway proposal.
