ANNUAL BALL.

MATANGI FOOTBALL CLUB. The Matangl Hall presented an animated scene when the president and members of the Matangi Football Club entertained a large number of friends at their annual ball. The Savoy Orpheaus Band from Te Aroha supplied the dance music, and the supper provided in the adjoining lounge was daintily set amidst charming floral and was served by memibers of me club, with the assistance of lady friends. Artistic genius was reflected-in the novel decoration of the hall, representing a football field, with streamers of gold and black, the club colours, tastefully Interspersed with ferns and other greenery. The emblems of the club worn by the local exponents of the pastime, enhanced the brightness, and added interest to the already colourful picture. Good music, and a pleasing spirit of camaraderie all combined to make the function one of the brightest and cheekiest arranged by the club. A ladies’ committee always lends a willing and practical hand at functions of this kind, and on this occasion the club memibers are especially grateful to those who assisted. Mention should be made of the energetic secretary to the club, Mr R. S. Entwistle, who to a great extent, undertook the responsibility for all ar-

rangements, and the success of the function is due in a great measure to the enthusiasm, and organising ability of that popular official. Messrs Phillipps, Cranston, Coleman, Strong, Robinson, G. Smith and others, were prominent factors in catering for the comfort and enjoyment of all during the evening.
