POPULAR EVENINGS

HAMILTON EAST SOCIALS. OLD TIME DANCING. For the past two months weekly combined old time dancing and card evenings, under the auspices of the Hamilton East Bowling Club have been drawing large attendances to Pearson’s Hall.

These evenings, in the hands of an energetic and capable committee, have proved the unqualified success they have done in the past, and by this means the funds of the club have /übstantially benefited. The evenings talcke the form of old time dancing, with a '.special area of the hall curtained off for the card enthusiasts.

Keen interest was displayed in the aggregate euchre prize competiiion. the ladies’ section being won by Mrs E. Tristram and the gentlemen's by Mr W. Young.

The waltzing competition, which was run for five weeks, drew record entries, and was closely contested, the decision finally going to Mr Hooper and Miss Carrie. Popular dance music has been supplied by Messrs W. Ruck (pianist) and 11. Webster (violinist), with Mr J. Fox fulfilling the duties of M.C. It is largely due to the untiring efforts of the Ladies’ -Committee that the evenings have been attended witli such success, and the names of Mesdames Garten, Hines, Webster (2) and Wallace are indeed worthy of special mention.

The Men’s Committee, comprising Messrs E. Quill (senr.), H. Webster, Ileinrnann, 11. Prickett, J. Fox, J. Carten and R. Handley have every reason for congratulation at the success of their eqorts.
