A WIN FOR HUIA. Huia defeated Kaipaki by two goals to one. For the winners goals were scored by E. Crompton and H. Crompton, and for Kaipaki D. Cunningham notched a goal. The most prominent players in the Huia team were Misses N. Stuart, N. Cuming, E. Crompton, of the forwards, and Misses 11. Crompton, G. Wright and P. Barnsdall, of the hacks. For Kaipaki the outstanding players were Misses D. Bones, Speake and O. Graham, of the forwards, and Misses Norrish and Lynds, of the backs.

JUNIOR RESULTS. Y.M.C.A. 3 beat High School 2. Ngaiiinapouri 7 beat Baptist 0. LADIES’ MATCH. TAUMARUNUI, Saturday. Ladies match: Waipa 2, beat King Country 1. WELLINGTON BEATS WAIRARAPA. WELLINGTON, Saturday. Tiie Wellington-Wairarapa representative hockey game was played in heavy ground. Mainly owing to defensive work by both sides there was no score at half-time. In the second spell Wellington were definitely superior, and in the final stages put on three goals in quick succession. Judi, Iloare and Ferguson were the scorers. The result was: Wellington 3, Wairarapa 0.

MATCH AT CARTERTON. i WAIRARAPA BEATS AUCKLAND. A SPARKLING GAME. CARTERTON, Saturday. The Ranfurly Shield game attracted an attendance estimated at 8000. The weather was fine, with a light breeze and the ground was in good order. Owing to the return of the All Blacks from Australia, Walrarapa fielded a considerably stronger side than that which met and defeated Hawke's Bay. Auckland, the challengers, fielded probably their strongest team. It was the goal .kicking by Fuller which saved the day for Wairarapa, as his hoot put on 14 points. Walrarapa. Full-back: Roach. Three-quarters: R. Booth, Stringfellow, Fuller. Five-eighths: Cook, Cundy. Half-back: Mill. Rover: J. Donald. Forwards: Irvine, Reid. Harvey, S. Willoughby, M. Willoughby, McGregor, Oliver. Auckland. Wairarapa drew first blood when Fuller kicked a penalty goal. Auckland were not daunted. Bush, from a free kick, missed the goal by a narrow margin. Wairarapa pressed strongly, but the defence held. A j speculator by Hook got Auckland out j of trouble. Fuller, from a free kick, made an unsuccessful attempt to add to the score.

Cammick, with a fine punt and a great follow-up, attempted to open up the game, but subsequent play became tight and hard. Cammick ran round and secured and made a dive for the line. From the ruck Anderson dived over and scored, and Bush converted.

■Cooke, with a mighty kick from his own twenty-five, gained tremendous ground, but Butler was on the watch. Mill and Stringfellow combined in a fine movement, but off-side spoiled the chance. Auckland maintained the pressure, but a mark saved Wairarapa. Wairarapa went into the lead when Fuller, close to half-time, scored from a free kick. At halftime the score was: Wairarapa 6 Auckland 5

At the opening of the second half, Auckland, with a brilliant passing rush, reached within five yards of Wairarapa’s line. It was the best effort of the day, but solid defence prevented them from increasing the score. A minute later, Finlayson and Lucas almost pushed their way through. Auckland still held their ascendancy and with a magnificent run along the line oue of the backs outstripped his opponents, but was edged out 10 yards off tiie line. Cundy was prominent in a strong Wairarapa rally, but Die Aucklanders packed round in solid formation. Play then became more open, but neither set of backs was brilliant. Cooke, again, with a characteristic kick, put Wairarapa in tiie position to Jaucli a solid attack, but the Aucklanders were in lively mood. Brilliant Play By Wairarapa. Brilliant play by Wairarapa led to a try close to the goal posts by Irvine. Reid initialed the effort and passed to Harvey for Irvine to dash over. Fuller converted. Auckland launched an attack, but play was stopped owing to an injury to Cammick. Wairarapa retaliated, the ball going from Cundy to Stringfellow, to Fuller, who short punted, but Buller saved and sent Auckland i to Wairarapa’s twenty-five shortly! 'after.

Fuller added a further three points to Wairarapa’s score from a penalty. Auckland were not overwhelmed, but their passing was not good enough, and it missed fire.
