A REDUCED YARDING. SHARP RISE IN VALUES. (By Telegraph—Special to Times.} AUCKLAND, Wednesday. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd, report: To-day at Westfield, beef was penned in scarcely average numbers. Competition was been and there was a sharp rise for all classes of prime cattle.

Extra choice ox sold to 44s per 100 lb, and prime 41s lo 435, secondary and plain 38s to 40s, prime young cow and heifer beef 38s to 40s, secondary 35s to 37s Gd.

Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £l7 10s to £l9 ss, heavy £ls 10s to £l7 7s Gd, lighter £l4 to £ls 7s 6d, light £ll 10s to £l3 15s, unfinished and small £9 to £ll 7s. 6d, heavy prime young cows and heifers £ll to £l3 15s (no extra heavy penned), lighter £9 to £lO 17s Gd, light £7 to £;> 17s Gd, other cows £G to £G 17s Gd. Messrs Dalgety ancf Company, Ltd., report:— Beef: At our weekly Westfield fat-stock market, held to-day, we penned ox beef in average numbers, the quality of which was good. Competition was very animated, and all well-finished lines showed a sharp rise. Extra prime bullocks realised £18; medium weight cattle, £ls 1 Is £ls ss. Two trucks of bullocks on account of Trewin Bros. (Maroheno) brought £l4 12s Gd to £ls 15s. The line averaged £JS Is lOd. One truck of extra well-finished and prime P.A. bullocks, on account of Angus Gibbons (Morrinsville), realised £ls 15s Gd to £lB. Tlio line averaged £JG 17s 2d. Sixteen sleers / from ihe North realised £lO 7s Gd to £l2 17s Gd, and averaged £JI 17s Sd. Bullocks on account of Frank Orr (Kaikohe) sold at £9 2s Gd to £l6 2s Gd; cow and heifer beef came forward in very small numbers, the yarding being the | smallest for a considerable lime. Com- , petition was a feature of the sale, and '■ a sharp rise was recorded. Extra choice ox beef sold to 44s per 1001 b; choice and prime, 41s to 435; secondary and plain, 33s t.o 355; prime young cow and heifer beef, 40s; just killable, 34s to 365.
