WORKINGMEN’S CLUB.
AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. DONATION" TO EARTHQUAKE FUND. That the Hamilton Workingmen’s Club is a big factor in the social life of Hamilton was fully illustrated on Saturday evening, when one of the most successful evenings yet inaugurated by the club was held in Toorak Chambers,. A fine musical programme featuring vocal, Instrumental and elocutionary numbers was a tribute to the high standing of the club. The president, Mr. E. Quill, senr., expressed his pleasure at the large attendance of members and referred briefly to the successful past six months. In connection with the proposed charta, the Minister had given their deputation a most sympathetic hearing, and there was every reason for an optimistic view as to the result of their representations. A vote of sympathy with those who had suffered loss in the recent earthquake was passed, and it was decided to donate the sum of £5 towards the Waikato Times Fund.
The programme included songs by Messrs. J. C. McCready, McKeown and Collins; violin solos by Mr. Bluet; pianoforte solos by Mr. Gibbs; monologues by Mr. Christie, and orchestral selections by Mr. Bert Smith’s orchestra. Mr. Gibbs acted as accompanist. _. . ...
