EXPRESS’ NARROW ESCAPE
COWCATCHER BADLY BUCKLED.
SERIOUS SMASH AVERTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Saturday. The Main Trunk express from the north was delayed for over an hour and a-half this morning, due to the engine striking a boulder on the line near Mangaweka. The cowcatcher was badly buckled, and the engine had to be changed. Fortunately the engine-driver saw the boulder In time to reduoe speed, so averting a more serious smash. The boulder weighed fully 2owt.
