TERRIFIC EXPLOSION.
IN OPERATING THEATRE, BRICK WALLS CRACKED. CONCRETE FLOOR LIFTED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —cooyrlg-ht.) (Australian Press Association.)
(Received May 10, 9.30 a.m.) HOBART, May 15. A violent explosion occurred in the operating theatre at the Spencer Hospital, Wyncard. While the room was being sterilised, the patent steriliser was switched on, and a few minutes later a terrific explosion occurred. The male cleaner, who was in the room, was thrown to the door, a reinforced concrete floor was lifted bodily six inches, the solid brick avails were cracked, and the medical instruments shattered.
It is surmised a leakage in Hie steriliser caused the explosion.
