RESEARCH IN OBSTETRICS.

SCHOLARSHIP AT MELBOURNE. HAMILTON REMIT AMENDED. GISBORNE, Tuesday. Owing to the generosity of a member who realised the need for creating interest and research in obstetrics, the Obstetrical Society was enabled last year to announce the award of a £SO scholarship. This supporter, who preferred to remain anonymous, donated enough money to endow the scholarship for two years, and it is the intention of the society lo maintain the award in future years if possible.

Arrangements have been made with the board of the Women’s Hospital, Melbourne, to give the scholarshipholder six months’ work as a house surgeon. In connection with this scholarship the following remit from the Hamilton branch of the National Council of Women was moved at the Dominion conference of the council to-day by Mrs Stevens: —"That the practical interest of the National Council of Women of New Zealand in women's welfare be shown by proposing to guarantee the £SO scholarship for one year.” Miss E. Melville, Auckland,- proposed that the following words be added to the motion: —“Provided that the money is found by the branches and not out of the Dominion funds.” The speaker also suggested that the society be requested to award Ihc money to a woman student if a suitable one were available. Miss Melville’s suggestions were adopted and the motion was passed as amended.
