MR F. F. HOCKLY.

HONOURED AT ROTORUA. A FAREWELL GATHERING. ROTORUA, Thursday. Mr and Mrs F. F. Hockly were tendered a farewell social last evening on the occasion of their leaving Rotorua. All shades of political opinion gathered to do them honour. The Mayor, Mr J. N. McLean, said during their residence in Rotorua Mr and Mrs Hockly had made many friends, and all were agreed that Mr Hockly Had been a faithful representative of their district in Parliament. Mrs E. Robertson said both Mr and Mrs Hockly had gained the esteem of the people of Rotorua. Mr H. M. Martin, on behalf of the farming community, said Mr Hockly had always attended to the needs of the farmers.

Mr Hockly was greeted with musical honours. He thanked the speakers for saying the many kind things about himself and-Mrs Hockly, and said it had not only been a matter of duty to serve, but he had found it a pleasure. He had given his best during the nine years he had been their representative. Whether he would return or not was in the lap of the gods. His defeat at the polls left no bitterness. Those who went into the battle must take defeat with a smile. (Applause.)
