APPROACH OF HOLIDAYS.

SCHOLARS DISPERSING. ANNUAL OCCUPATION HUNT. I EXAMINATIONS PROCEEDING. o Examinations are proceeding apace in the Hamilton district, but within a week or so hundreds will put away their books —some for good—and turn their attention to the easy problem of how to spend six weeks’ holiday-. “Break-ups” are a time of rejoicing for teachers as well as pupils, for the fortnight previous to the last day is always a trying one, and in many cases the teaching staff is obliged to remain behind for the correction of shoals of examination papers. On the other hand, the burden of worry is transferred from the shoulders of teachers and scholars to parents. Those who are not faced with the problem of keeping children occupied and out of mischief for several weeks are busy seeking positions for their offspring in the business worldThere is no reason to. suspect that commercial occupations for beginners will be less accessible this year than last. Although it is too early for details of Hamilton children who will be leaving school this year and are anxious to obtain a foothold in the various trades and professions offering, it is believed there are more than usual. A fair proportion of secondary school pupils will be going on the land, but these are all too few. Breaklng-up Ceremonies. By the end of next week all Hamilton schools will be deserted except for a caretaker or gardener preparing for the resumption of activities next February. Sir George Fowlds will present the prizes at the Hamilton High School breaking-up ceremony on Friday. The year’s awards at Southwell School will be presented by- the Bishop of Waikato on Wednesday, and His Lordship will probably officiate in a similar capacity at the Waikato Diocesan Girls’ function next Monday. The Technical High School will pack up its books and disperse on December 18 and St. Mary’s Convent is expected to complete is school year on December 17. All the primary schools will break up on Wednesday, December 19.
