TREATMENT OF MIGRANTS
SENSATIONAL ALLEGATIONS. RAMSAY MACDONALD’S ADVICE. STATEMENTS SHOULD BE CHECKED (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) (Received Sept. 10, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 9. In connection with the remarkable statements concerning the harsh treatment of'' the miner harvesters in Canada, the Daily Herald publishes extracts of letters therefrom alleging that they -were forced to sleep in the open and in the bitter cold, following 18 to 20 hours’ work daily. Many were turned into the streets and are living on charity. In a cable Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, who is at present in Canada, says he is unable to verify the complaints, and he urges that each statement should be separately checked.
