MATAMATA.

Social. Members of the Matamata Cricket Club farewelled Mr and Mrs R. 11. Dale at their residence prior to their departure to reside at Pacroa, to which place Mr Dale lias been transferred to continue his duties as farm dairy instructor. Appreciative references were made to Mr Dale’s services to cricket by Rev. Father Silk and Messrs T. Hunt, W. E. Ayres, D. K. Porter and J. l.andells, and in handing Mr and Mrs Dale a handsome travelling rug Mr W. Livingstone expressed extreme regret that they were leaving the district and wished them success and prosperity. Mr Dale suitably responded, and wished the club a most successful season. At the same time opportunity was taken to recognise the services of Mrs D. Fussey to the club, in the way of providing refreshments at the cricket matches, and on behalf of members Mr Livingstone tianded Mrs Fussey a silver teapot and hot-water jug. The evening concluded with vocal items by Misses Ayres and Fussey and dancing, Miss Landells playing the accompaniments. Plunket Society. As a result of a sale of work organised by Te Poi residents the Matamata branch of the society will benefit to the extent of over £2O. The stallholders were :—Flowers and sweets, Mesdames Grayling, Molloy, Goodall and Madsen; needlework, Mesdames Davidson, Quinlan, Woolnough and WhyLcross; bran tub, Mrs and Miss Nclmes; kitchen. Mesdames Priestly, Hitchcock, Taylor, Harrys and Whyte, Misses Tui Read and Nancy Grayling; quoits, Mrs Settle; ringlets, Mrs Mudford; skittles, Messrs Bellamy and Nelmes; nail-driving, Mrs Goodwin; sponge cake competition, Mesdames Thornton and Holmes. Golf Social. There was a good attendance at a social and dance held by the Matamata Golf Club. Mr G- Fitzgerald was M.C. and good music was supplied by

Holland’s orchestra. These evenings are becoming very popular and, are not organised with the idea of making a profit, but to promote social intercourse amongst the members and their friends. Riding Accident. Last week Miss B. Edwards, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Edwards, whilst riding along the Ilinuera road, had a severe fall from her horse. The young lady is still in a state of unconsciousness, although an operation lias been performed. it is hoped that a marked improvement will take place in the sufferer’s

condition within the next few days.
