Purchase of Big Block. Negotiations for the purchase of a block comprising close upon 1000 acres situated on Die slopes of Pirongia arc likely to result in a sale shortly. The- intending purchaser is the representative of a substantial city firm, which intends to effect considerable improvements which will give employment to a number of men bush-felling, fencing, clearing and general farm work for some time. Upwards of 000 acres of the property was felled, grassed and fenced about 25 years ago. There is, however, very little sign of former improvements to be seen, owing to the rapid advance of second growth so peculiar to this class of land. Nevertheless, there is abundant evidence of the apparent fertility of land in the immense growth of brown fern and thriving puka puka, a fact remarked upon by the present Minister of Lands during a visit to this district.
