COUNTRY WOMEN'S CLUB.
Though the weather was not all that could be desired, quite a large gathering took place in the Te Pahu Hall, on Wednesday afternoon, Ihe lGth inst. Miss G. Strong played a pianoforte solo followed by Mrs J. Watt with a reading. The sketch entitled "Rising to the Occasion," played by Mrs Cobbett and Miss Hills caused roars of laughter. The president of the "Country Women's Club" (Mrs Mahoney), who presided then introduced Mrs A. Ramsay and Mrs Powell, of Hamilton, who had kindly come out to instruct any members who wished to take up "Marqueterie, ' or Ruskin work. Mrs Ramsay gave a very instructive and interesting address, and some fine work was done. Mrs Ramsay kindly offered to come again at some future date. Afternoon tea was served and when .home time came Mrs Mahoney moved a hcaify vole of thanks to the visiting ladies which was carried with applause. The next afternoon will be May 30, when Mrs Johnston of Hamilton will give a talk to "Mothers and Members," with hopes of forming a branch of the Mothers' League in this district.
