Surprise Party

A delightful surprise party, organscd by Miss Esme Ferris, was tendered to Miss Amy Windsor, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Windsor, of this district, on the occasion of her 21st birthday. • As the young lady's home was not big enough to accommodate the large crowd that gathered to honour the occasion, all repaired to 1 the hall, where dancing was indulged in till a late hour. The guest of honour was the recipient of many handsome presents, accompanied by the heartiest good wishes for a long and happy life. Among those present I noticed:— Mesdames F. Windsor, blue figured marocain; W. Ferris, fawn crepe de chine; L. Andrews, floral georgette; T. Neil, blue silk; D. Shaw, black satin; D. Moon, coral/satin; G. Ramsay, black crepe de chine; T. Shaw, navy silk; A. G. Massey, brown marocain; Misses A. Windsor, cyclamen lace; M. Windsor, pink lace; D. Windsor,'green satin; 11. Shaw, rose marocain; D. Shaw, green lace; T. Fell, coral crepe de chine; E. Fell, pink satin; A. Neil, fawn marocain; B. James, black chiffon velvet; M. Baird, blue taffeta; I. Ferguson, apricot georgette; J. Curie, pink satin; R. Neilsen, pink georgette; E. Ferris, pink georgette; E. Sharpe, pink crepe de chine; M. Ramsay, pink crepe de chine. Mr Dunbar Moon acted as M.G.. and music was provided by Mr D. Fell, assisted by Mrs D. Shaw, Miss I). Windsor and Miss - Ferris. In a brief speech Mr Windsor thanked all those present for their kindness, on his daughter’s behalf, and expressed the hope that he would be able to return their kindly hospitality at home future dale.

Weather and Dairying. .■ Till the recent rains there had hecn •}Ule growth since the last hard frost, zjmd things were beginning to look serious for the farmers. It is hoped that now the milk supply will show increase, though the cold winds sre doing much to minimise the beneficial effect of the raiu.

Road Work. Mr R. Turpin, foreman of the roads, has taken full advantage of the weeks of dry weather, and has had a full gang at work, both in the quarry and on the roads. The long-looked for tar-sealing from Platt’s • corner to Tauwhare is in full swing, and when finished will prove a great boon to all travellers. The Schoof. School basket-ball has given place to tennis, and it is hoped to arrange outside matches later in the season. The epidemic of mumps was followed by one of measles with the result that school attendance is again considerably lowered. Accident. The many friends of Margaret Ramsay, Ihe twelve-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Ramsay, will bo glad to hear that her arm, which she broke, through falling from a tree while bird-nesting, is out of splints.
