LORD MAYOR OF LONDON

A VISIT TO ROME. AN IMPOSING PROGRAMME. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 30. The Lord Mayor of London, Sir Rowland Blades, and the Lady Mayoress, who were accompanied by their two eldest twin daughters, left London this afternoon on an official visit to Rome. The members of the party will be the guests of Prince Poienziani, the Governor of Rome, who has taken for them a suite of apartments at the Ambassadors' Hotel. Elaborate preparations have been made for their welcome and an imposing programme has been organised and Rome will be gay with flags and bunting. The visitors will be received by the Prime Minister, Signor Mussolini, and probably by the King of Italy and the Pope. An official dinner will be given in their honour by the Government and the municipality of Rome at the Capitol. They will attend a gala performance at the Opera House and they will make excursions to various places of historical interest. The Lord Mayor will lay wreaths on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and on the tombs of the Kings of Italy at the Pantheon. The visit will last five days.
