NEW ZEALAND FOR FILMS.

*■. A CINEMA MAN'S PRAISE. Mr Clarke Irvine, who spent 11 years in making pictures in Hollywood and Culver City, and who was at one time publicity manager for Charlie Chaplin, and Harold Lloyd, and was director of that work for the big Goldwyn Studios, is visiting Hamilton and is impressed with New Zealand as a place for film production. "It is a wonder to me that you do not produce more pictures in New Zealand" said the visitor to a Times representative. "You certainly lack nothing in scenic wonders hereabouLs. Every day I stroll by your beautiful Waikato and wish that 1 could produce a picture right here in Hamilton."

"I think your city is one of the finest little places I've seen anywhere on the face of the globe—and I've visited some lovely towns." "The fresh air here is simply grand, invigorating, and highly stimulating, after the air of the cities! and your sky is somewhat bluer, and things seem more fresh and healthy. We walked all around on Sunday and enjoyed the lake, the river, and the parks. The green trees arc a treat to behold, but there is a slight joke on me. When I first walked up the main thoroughfare I was elated to find a spot of greenery alongside the stone and brick blocks, and here I rested under a big tree. But last night Mrs Harrison informed me that this beautiful spot was to be levelled and a building erected. This is to be deplored, indeed."

United States and Now Zealand. Mr Irvine believes that two young countries like New Zealand and the United Stales, should become much closer related. In Auckland he advocated a direct route steamer line between Los Angeles, the great tourist point, and Auckland, with low fares, so low that vacationists could even bring their camp cars and tour New Zealand ovsr a period of several months.
