THE SIMPLE LIFE.
MR CLARKE IRVINE ON HEALTH. Health or "Inner Prosperity" was the subject of a lecture given by Mr Clarke Irvine, an American apostle of simpler ways of life, at the Hamilton Theosophical Hall last evening. Taking as his text Cicero's saying: "He is richest that has fewest wants," Mr Irvine told of his own experience in simplifying his habits and acquiring new and greater vitality. He claimed that his message was a spiritual one; for the forces of the infinite that came into human life in unknown mysterious ways could not have full expression If the physical system were clogged. Pure air, working through lungs and pores, abundant water and correct foods were necessary to cleansing and to fulness of life. Fruit and vegetables should be eaten raw; it was a crime to cook fruit, cooking destroyed the living organisms in fruits and robbed the eater of elements of life. Nuts and dried fruits were great power-giving fruits. The fact that man was not equipped with tusks or claws for hunting game was in indication that he was not intended to eat meat. Those who turned from meat to the foods he advocated not only added years to their life, but added life to their years. Mr Irvine, who is a young man with every appearance of health and vitality to bear testimony to the validity of his beliefs, was accorded an attentive hearing.
