CROQUET.

TE AWAMUTU CLUB. OPENING OF SEASON. The Te Awamutu Croquet Club was opened in brilliant weather on Saturday afternoon. The fine weather experienced lately evidently induced players to travel, as there was a record attendance of J 50 ladies present. The Mayor, Mr L. C. Armstrong, welcomed the visitors on behalf of the club. He apologised for the absence of Mrs W. Taylor, the club's patron, through illness. Mrs Taylor had driven the first ball for very many years. He then called on the club's president, Mrs H. dc L. Pcakc, to drive the first ball. Gaines were soon in progress, and the greens were kept going steadily throughout the afternoon. Results were as follows: — Golf croquet.—Mrs White, Hamilton.

Bobs Croquet.—Mrs McDcrmott, Cambridge. A Progressive Croquet.—Mrs Bartlett, Hamilton.

B Progressive Croquet.—Mrs Bell, Cambridge.

It speaks well for the hospitality of the club that there were visitors from Morrinsville, Cambridge, Hamilton, Whiliora, Frankton, Tc Kuiti, Otorohanga and Te Rore; and everyone went away having spent a pleasant afternoon.

The officials worked well throughthe afternoon, and everything went with a swing.
