GORDONTON.
Successful Dance. A most successful dance was held in the Gordonton Hall in aid of Sister Esther’s Benevolent Fund. There was a good attendance, visitors being present from Hamilton and the surrounding districts.
Music was supplied by an orchestra under the direction of Mr G. Brown, and extras were played by Mesdames Beil, Carswell and Miss McMullen. Mr Dll Riddell kindly acted as M.G. The hall was tastefully decorated with greenery and shaded lights, and the floor was in excellent order. Presentation. A social evening was held in Piako Road School in honour of Mr B. Maunder.- The following items proved most successful:—Recitation, Miss Jones; songs, Miss Soulhgate, Messrs Barr, Tenant and R. Maunder. A dainty and generous supper was served, after which Mr Stanley made the presentation of a dinner and tea service. In well-chosen words Mr Stanley spoke of the good qualities of the guest of the evening, and the high respect in which he was held by all.
Mr Maunder suitably replied. Dancing was kept up until the early hours of the morning.
Tennis Club. The annual meeting of the local Tenuis Club was held in the haiL, Mr G. Parfltt presiding. A credit balance of nearly £6 was revealed in the balance sheet presented by the secretary, Miss G. Wood. Officers for the ensuing season were elected as follows:—President, Mr G. Parfltt; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Carswell. F. Wood, J. Riddell, G. Peach and G. Clark; secretary, Miss G. Wood (re-elected) ; committee, Mrs Rollinson, Misses 0. Morgan, 0. Whittaker, Messrs L. Dummond, L. Henson, D. Riddell, A. Gubb. The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair.
Dairying Season. The new dairying season has opened well in this district. Never before have the oldest residents known such a winter for grass, the result being that stock have wintered well and are milking at their best. Our cheese factory has been running all winter and sufficient milk has been forthcoming to enable cheese to be made right through. Thet factory is under the management of Mr A. E. Faville, late of Wharepoa. The Roads. Our roads have stood up to the winter traffic very well and are better than they have been for many years at this time of the year. This surely is proof of the need for more constant grading, and our riding member, Air Henderson, and the engineer, Mr Woodward, are to be complimented on their attention to their duties.
