Country Women’s Club,
A most successful afternoon was spent by a large number of members of the Country Women’s Club, in the To Palm Hall on Saturday. Miss Hills
played a pianoforte solo, and had to
respond to an encore. The president of the Club (Mrs Marx) then introduced an old friend, Mrs Raymond Jones of Kihi Kill! Road, To .Awarnutu, who kindly offered to give any members lessons in raflla Work. This offer was received with applause, and a i?rand response, for after seeing some samples of work done several ladies at once got busy on bags, slippers, etc., and a most interesting Lime was spent, Mrs Jones lie ing a very capable teacher and very painstaking in her instructions on the work.
During an interval refreshments were handed round and enjoyed by
Mrs J. Watt gave a reading (humorous), and caused amusement. Miss Mack followed with a song and was encored.
Before concluding the president moved a vole of thanks to all who lielpLo make the Country Women’s Club afl.ern.oon so pleasant, and especially Mrs Jones, who had come so far and taken such a keen interest in helping to give pleasure lo llie women who are living in the country places. Mrs'Jones lias promised to visit the Club on a future occasion, with another branch of the work. Lambing and Dairying.
Lambs are becoming quite numerous in our district, and so far a good many doubles are to be seen, promising a good percentage. Most of Hie dairymen are busy with ihc cows coming in, and preparing for Ibe opening of Hie new season’s cream culprit. Inquiries for land arc frequent, four farms having been sold in. the district lately, the new owners entering into possession at once.
